Where and When?

During Winter (October - March) we will be attending the Tuesday 6.45pm 'Spin' class at Aberdeen Sports Village (£6 per class for non-members). You need to book on early to ensure your place on the class (members 5days in advance, non-members 3 days in advance).

During Summer (April - September) Aberdeen's new ladies cycling group meets every Tuesday evening at 6.30pm at the Boating Pond (next to the car park) in Duthie Park.

We decide on the night how long a ride we want to go and and where we want to go. At the end of the ride we will usually head for a refreshment break at a local establishment!

The group offers basic road safety and maintainance tuition.

Please wear a helmet and bright clothes and bike lights for darker evenings.

All abilities welcome!

1 month of Spinning down

Well, that is (for myself and Amy anyway) our first month of Spinning, and I think we have really enjoyed it, all be it rather hideous at the time! Lousie has come along for 1 session and mysteriously been busy for the other 3 and now we have a new member in our fold, Mrs G! Great stuff!

Mountain Biking at Kirkhill - Saturday

Had a good time mountainbiking on the weekend up at Kirkill, very muddy and wet, but a lovely blue sunny day. Linked up some good singletrack and went right to the top of 'Tappy Tower'.

Ullapool Sportive Update

Well I completed it. It was blowing an absolute gale all day (40mph constant). The single track road from Stac Pollaidh around to Lochinver was challenging with its ups and downs and tight corners. Great fun though. Time to complete was: 4.5hrs. not too bad!

Tuesday Spin Class

Myself, Amy and Sylvia, attended a Spin class at Aberdeen Sports Village last night. It was tough going with hillclimbs, sprinting and squatting all whilst in the pedals. We didn't stop turning the pedals for the entire hour! Very sweaty, but well worth it! Burning approximately 500 calories!

Help make cycling safer for all!

Research tells us that the majority of women in Britain don't cycle because they don't feel safe. Help us to change this for the benefit of every would-be cyclist by signing our Motion for Women petition now, as 2,300 people already have. Add your name and forward the link to help us convince governments to invest more in making cycling safer for all.

Last Night - Kirkhill Forest MTB-ing!

Myself and Amy went to Kirkhill Forest and did some singletrack downhill mountainbiking. Amy did amazingly well! We did one curcuit and onto the jump park for the descent to the car park, then partook in a chip supper on the way home!

Rhian is doing a Charity Cycle Sportive

Myself and my friend Brid will be undertaking the 65 mile Ullapool Cycle Sportive on the 26th of September. We will be raising money for the charity 'Chicks' which enables young carers and disadvantaged children to go on a country holiday, giving them a needed break that they may not have had otherwise.

The race will take us through 65 miles of the stunning scenery of Sutherland going from Ullapool, around the Inverpollaidh Forrest to Lochinver and back to Ullapool.

If anyone fancies riding this for the charity please let me know ASAP!

We hope to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. Any dotation, whatever size is greatly appreciated.

Donations can be made at:

This Thursday - To the Beach!

To the beach... we will go for icecream, if the day is like it was on Monday...but not if it is like today (Tuesday) we could still go to the beach however, but not for the icecream!
Oh and as we will be using roads etc please do not bring any dogs, cats, gerbils, hampsters, or racoons! Thank you!

Next Thursday

I will be away on holiday for the week, but hope that some of you will meet up at the park for a ride. I plan to run the road saftey and technique session the week of my return. So please let me know if you are able to come. (rhian_wood@yahoo.com, or mobile: 07990707318).

Also,
How does everyone feel about meeting slightly earlier as the nights are beginning to get noticably darker? Say 6.30 or 7pm...or somewhere in between? Just a thought, again, let me know your feelings on this one!

Last Night

As just the two of use turned up we decided to go slightly further afield. We drove up to the Lairhillock with bikes on the car and then did a 4.1 mile circuit around undlating single track roads which involved one big descent and then of course one big ascent. We started from the small lochan at Eastside near Stranog Hill and initially headed south (circuit marked in red)

10% off at Alpine Bikes for us girlies!

I'v managed to wangle an ever present 10% off at Alpine Bikes, Aberdeen for us girlies!

it's on: all clothing, parts, accessories and labour, but not sale goods or bikes though unfortunately.

One stipulation being you present your 'membership card' at the shop when buying and I need a list of everyones name so they can check up on us....it's worth it though! will get everyones names etc tonight and will make some cards to bring along tonight also!

Tonight

If anyone has started looking at this yet...

Tonight I want to run through some road safety stuff, that we will then put to the test on a short ride. Just the basics or anything that you are not comfortable with we will tackle head on the in the comfort of Duthie Park! so....roundabouts, traffic, where to position yourself on the road, what to wear and anything else you want to know about.

See you tonight,

Rhian

Last Weeks Ride - Thursday 16th July 2009

Six ladies met up last week to embark on a bike ride along the dismantled railway from Duthie Park. We cycled to the Cults Hotel for a drink and a chat and then cycled back through clouds of flies.

Round trip total 8 miles.
